What it does — It is commonly used to bind water and help keep formulas and skin feeling hydrated, and it can lend light support to a formula's freshness.

Typical use — It appears across toners, essences, serums, lotions and creams as a supporting hydrator and solvent.

Who it suits / good to know — Suitable for most skin and scalp types. Like other humectants, it performs best sealed in with a moisturizer, especially in dry air.
