What it is — Centella Asiatica Extract (INCI: Centella Asiatica Extract) is a botanical extract from the Centella asiatica plant, also known as gotu kola or cica. It naturally contains compounds such as madecassoside and asiaticoside.

What it does — It is widely used as a soothing, conditioning ingredient that helps calm the look and feel of stressed or sensitive skin and scalp. It is the basis of many "cica" style comfort products, described in cosmetic rather than medical terms.

Typical use — Found in soothing toners, essences, serums, masks, creams and scalp treatments, often in sensitive- and recovery-focused ranges.

Who it suits / good to know — A popular choice for sensitive, reactive or easily flushed skin. It pairs well with panthenol, allantoin and beta-glucan, and layers easily in a routine.
