Ceresin
Also known asOzokerite-derived wax
FunctionWax
What it is — Ceresin (INCI: Ceresin) is a hard wax refined from ozokerite, a naturally occurring mineral wax.
What it does — It is structure. It sets a stick firm enough to hold its shape in a pocket, binds pigment so it does not shed as loose powder, and helps the deposit stay put once applied.
Typical use — It is standard in lipsticks, balms and cover sticks, at levels high enough to define the texture.
Who it suits / good to know — Inert and non-sensitising. It is the reason a stick behaves like a stick, and it contributes nothing to what the product does for hair or skin.
Safety — DHALIORA grades it low risk in its EWG-style, ingredient-by-ingredient review. This reflects the ingredient in general and is not medical advice; patch-test if your skin is easily irritated.
