What it is — Cocamidopropyl Betaine (INCI: Cocamidopropyl Betaine) is a coconut-derived amphoteric (mild) secondary surfactant.

What it does — It is commonly used to cleanse gently, boost foam and soften the effect of harsher primary surfactants.

Typical use — It appears in shampoos, body washes, facial cleansers and micellar products as a co-surfactant.

Who it suits / good to know — Widely used to make cleansers milder. It has been noted as an occasional contact allergen, usually linked to trace manufacturing impurities rather than the ingredient itself.
