What it is — Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine (INCI of the same name) is a coconut-derived amphoteric (mild) secondary surfactant.

What it does — It is commonly used to cleanse gently, boost creamy foam and soften the effect of harsher primary surfactants.

Typical use — It appears in shampoos, body washes and facial cleansers as a co-surfactant.

Who it suits / good to know — Widely used to make cleansers milder. Ingredients in the cocamidopropyl family are recognized as occasional sensitizers, usually linked to trace manufacturing impurities.
