FunctionScalp Conditioning

What it is — Dexpanthenol (INCI: Dexpanthenol) is the alcohol form of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), widely used across skin and hair care.

What it does — It absorbs and holds moisture, helps soothe the look of a stressed scalp, and leaves hair feeling softer after rinsing.

Typical use — A staple conditioning and soothing agent in shampoos, conditioners, serums and after-sun formulas, usually at low, well-tolerated levels.

Who it suits / good to know — Suits nearly all hair and skin types, including sensitive and flaky scalps; it is one of the best-tolerated conditioning actives in cosmetics.

Safety — DHALIORA grades it low risk: an extremely well-established, low-irritation conditioning ingredient. General information, not medical advice.

How grades are set — Risk reflects our own reading of publicly available safety data, an EWG-style reading shown at the worst-case grade we've assigned this ingredient across products. It isn't a third party's proprietary score, and it isn't medical advice. Always read the packaging and patch-test where indicated.
