ethoxydiglycol
FunctionSolvent / penetration enhancer
What it is
Ethoxydiglycol is a glycol-ether solvent used to dissolve active ingredients and to help them spread and penetrate.
What it does
It keeps otherwise hard-to-dissolve actives evenly mixed and can enhance how well they are delivered into the skin, improving a formula's texture and performance.
Typical use
Found in serums, peels and treatment products, typically at modest levels as a solvent and penetration enhancer.
Safety
Graded mid risk. It is a useful solvent, but as a penetration enhancer it can increase the irritation potential of a formula (commonly cited around EWG 3-4). People with sensitive skin should introduce products containing it gradually and patch-test first. This is general information, not medical advice.
