Hexadecene
Also known as1-Hexadecene
FunctionEmollient
What it is — Hexadecene (INCI: Hexadecene) is a sixteen-carbon alkene, slightly heavier than tetradecene and used the same way.
What it does — It softens, adds slip, and helps oil-soluble ingredients disperse evenly through a formula.
Typical use — It is used at low levels in hair colour and conditioning formulas, often paired with tetradecene to tune the feel of the base.
Who it suits / good to know — Non-reactive and well tolerated. Like other light hydrocarbons it sits on the surface rather than doing anything inside hair or skin.
Safety — DHALIORA grades it low risk in its EWG-style, ingredient-by-ingredient review. This reflects the ingredient in general and is not medical advice; patch-test if your skin is easily irritated.
