Hydrolyzed Sponge
FunctionSpicule / Delivery
What it is — Hydrolyzed Sponge (INCI: Hydrolyzed Sponge) is a marine-sponge-derived material that supplies fine microspicules (tiny needle-like structures) used as a delivery and resurfacing ingredient.
What it does — Its microspicules create micro-channels at the skin's surface, commonly used to help channel other ingredients into the surface and to give a resurfacing, "self-activating" sensation.
Typical use — Found in spicule serums, ampoules and booster treatments.
Who it suits / good to know — Best for those who want an intensive, resurfacing-style product; it can feel prickly or tingly and is usually introduced gradually. Sensitive, compromised or reactive skin should be cautious.
Safety — Graded mid risk because the spicules can cause micro-irritation and are not suited to all skin. This is general information, not medical advice. Patch-test, avoid broken skin and follow usage frequency guidance.
