Mid risk

Also known asAmiloxate, IMC

FunctionUVB Filter

What it is — Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate (INCI), also known as amiloxate — a cinnamate-family organic sunscreen filter.

What it does — It absorbs UVB light and is usually paired with other filters to build broad-spectrum SPF.

Typical use — Used in sunscreens and daily SPF products sold in Korea, Europe and Australia.

Who it suits / good to know — Good to know: it is not on the US FDA's list of approved sunscreen actives, and a small number of people react to cinnamate filters.

Safety — Rated mid risk because of that sensitisation potential. This is general information, not medical advice; patch-test new sunscreens if your skin is reactive.

Why we grade it Mid: Mid risk — a cinnamate filter with a small potential for sensitisation; not approved as a filter in the US.
