lanolin alcohol
Functionemollient
What it is — Lanolin Alcohol (INCI: Lanolin Alcohol) is the alcohol-rich fraction of lanolin, a wool-derived wax, used as an emollient and emulsifier.
What it does — It softens and conditions the skin and helps blend oil and water phases, commonly used to give rich, occlusive comfort in balms and creams.
Typical use — Found in lip balms, rich creams, ointments and hair conditioners.
Who it suits / good to know — Suits very dry or chapped skin looking for occlusive comfort. Because it is a recognized contact allergen for some people, sensitive skin should be cautious; it is animal-derived and not vegan.
Safety — Graded mid risk as a known contact allergen for sensitive skin. This is general information, not medical advice. Patch-test before wider use and avoid if you have a known lanolin allergy.
