Salicylic Acid
FunctionBHA Exfoliant
What it is — Salicylic Acid (INCI: Salicylic Acid) is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA). It is oil-soluble, which lets it work within pores and on oily surfaces, and it is produced synthetically to cosmetic grade.
What it does — It is commonly used as an exfoliant that helps loosen and clear surface buildup, dead cells and flaking, and to keep pores looking clearer. On the scalp it is often included to reduce the look of flaking and product buildup.
Typical use — Found in exfoliating toners, serums, cleansers, spot treatments and scalp/anti-dandruff style products, typically at low levels within regulated limits.
Who it suits / good to know — Often chosen for oily, congestion-prone or flaky skin and scalp. It can be drying or sensitizing if overused, so introduce it gradually and avoid over-layering with other acids. Sun protection is wise when using exfoliating acids.
Safety — DHALIORA grades it mid risk: an effective exfoliating acid that can sensitize some users. Patch-test and follow label directions. General information, not medical advice.
