What it is — Beer Yeast Extract is obtained from brewer's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and carries B-group vitamins, amino acids, peptides and beta-glucan.

What it does — It is used as a conditioning and scalp-care ingredient. The amino acids and sugars help hair hold water, and the extract is a common headline ingredient in Korean scalp and anti-shedding formulas.

Typical use — It appears in shampoos, tonics and scalp treatments, often marketed prominently even when present at modest levels.

Who it suits / good to know — Well tolerated and non-active in the regulatory sense. Claims about hair loss built on this ingredient are cosmetic marketing rather than a recognised functional claim in Korea, where the approved actives for relief of hair-loss symptoms are a different, specific list.
