What it is — Decyl Glucoside (INCI: Decyl Glucoside) is a surfactant — a cleansing and foaming agent.

What it does — It is commonly used as a very gentle glucose-based surfactant.

Typical use — It is found in facial cleansers, shampoos, body washes and other rinse-off products, where it helps lift away oil and debris and build lather. Formulators often blend several surfactants together to balance cleansing power against gentleness.

Who it suits / good to know — Rinse-off contact keeps exposure brief. Very frequent or harsh cleansing can leave some skin or scalps feeling tight; milder amino-acid or sugar-based surfactants are often chosen for sensitive users. Following a wash with moisturizer helps offset any tightness for drier skin types.
