What it is — 4-Terpineol (INCI: Terpinen-4-ol) is a naturally occurring terpene alcohol found in tea tree and other essential oils, where it contributes to the scent.

What it does — It is present largely as a fragrance and aromatic component rather than as a skincare active.

Typical use — It appears at low levels in scented skincare, scalp and body products, and can occur naturally within essential-oil blends.
