What it is — Agar (INCI: Agar) is a polysaccharide obtained from red seaweed, used as a gelling and thickening agent.

What it does — It is commonly used to build gel structure and viscosity and to give masks and gels their body and stable texture.

Typical use — It appears in gel masks, gel moisturizers and other water-based formulas that need structure; it is also a widely used food-grade gelling agent.

Who it suits / good to know — Suitable for most skin types; it works on the formula's texture rather than acting as a skin active.
