Ingredient

Alcohol

Mid risk

Also known asEthanol, Ethyl Alcohol

FunctionSolvent

What it is — Alcohol (INCI: Alcohol), also called ethanol or ethyl alcohol — the plain, undenatured form.

What it does — It dissolves UV filters and other actives, evaporates quickly to leave a weightless, non-tacky film, and is the main source of the cooling feel many light sunscreens give on application.

Typical use — Common in lightweight sun serums, gels, mists and toners, where a fast-drying, fresh texture is the goal.

Who it suits / good to know — Often liked by oily and combination skin and anyone who dislikes a heavy sunscreen feel; very dry or barrier-compromised skin may prefer an alcohol-free formula.

Safety — Rated mid risk because higher levels can be drying or cause stinging on reactive skin. This is general information, not medical advice; patch-test if your skin is dry or sensitive.

Why we grade it Mid: Mid risk — high on an ingredient list it can feel drying or sting reactive skin.
