FunctionAntioxidant (vitamin E)

What it is — Alpha-Tocopherol (INCI: Tocopherol) is the most bioactive form of vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant that occurs naturally in many plant oils.

What it does — It is commonly used to help protect the oil phase of a formula and skin lipids from everyday oxidation, and it lends a conditioning, softening feel.

Typical use — It appears in facial oils, serums, balms, moisturizers and hair oils, often paired with vitamin C-type antioxidants.

Who it suits / good to know — Suitable for most skin and scalp types, and especially common in oil-rich, nourishing formulas.
