dihydroquercetin
FunctionAntioxidant
What it is
Dihydroquercetin, also known as taxifolin, is a flavonoid antioxidant found in plants such as larch wood and onions. It is used in skincare as an antioxidant and conditioning additive.
What it does
It helps neutralise free radicals generated by environmental stress and is often chosen for its reputation for supporting the look of the skin barrier and a calmer, more even-toned appearance. Formulators frequently combine it with vitamins C and E to round out an antioxidant blend.
Typical use
Found at low concentrations in serums, creams and eye products, generally as a supporting antioxidant rather than a headline active.
Safety
Rated low risk as a plant antioxidant with low irritation potential. Individual sensitivities to a finished product are still possible, so patch-test before regular use. This is general information and not medical advice.
