dipotassium phosphate
Functionbuffer
What it is
Dipotassium phosphate is a mineral salt of phosphoric acid used in cosmetics as a pH buffer.
What it does
Its job is behind the scenes: it helps keep a formula at a stable, skin-friendly pH so that other ingredients stay effective and the product remains comfortable to use. It contributes no scent, colour or active benefit of its own.
Typical use
Added in very small amounts to a wide range of water-based products, including cleansers, toners, serums and creams.
Safety
Graded low risk as an inert buffer. It is widely used and generally well tolerated. If you have highly reactive skin, patch-testing the finished product is still sensible. This is general information, not medical advice.
