FunctionSkin conditioning

What it is — Ergosterol (INCI: Ergosterol), also known as Provitamin D2, is a sterol and vitamin-D precursor used as a skin-conditioning ingredient.

What it does — As a lipid-like sterol it is commonly used to help condition and soften the skin surface and support a comfortable feel.

Typical use — Found in creams, serums and balms as a supporting conditioning ingredient.

Who it suits / good to know — Broadly suitable, particularly for drier or barrier-focused routines. It pairs well with other lipids and emollients. Being a "provitamin D2" precursor does not make it a vitamin-D treatment.

Safety — Graded low risk as a skin-conditioning sterol. This is general information, not medical advice.
