silica silylate

FunctionConditioning
What it is
Silica silylate is a surface-treated (silanised) silica used to thicken oils and give a dry, matte finish.
What it does
It helps build texture in oil-based systems, absorb excess oil and leave a soft, dry-touch feel, improving how a product applies and wears.
Typical use
Found in primers, oil-control products, powders and some serums.
Safety
Graded low risk as an inert, well-tolerated conditioning agent. It contributes texture rather than any active effect. Patch-test if your skin is highly reactive. This is general information, not medical advice.
Why we grade it Low: Low risk - silicone/conditioning agent, inert and well tolerated.

How grades are set — Risk reflects our own reading of publicly available safety data, an EWG-style reading shown at the worst-case grade we've assigned this ingredient across products. It isn't a third party's proprietary score, and it isn't medical advice. Always read the packaging and patch-test where indicated.
