What it is — Black ginseng is Korean ginseng root (Panax ginseng) that has been steamed and dried several times over, a process that turns it black and changes its ginsenoside profile. Red ginseng is the single-steamed version; black ginseng is the further-processed one.

What it does — In hair care it is a scalp-conditioning botanical, contributing ginsenosides and polyphenols. It is not a colourant; the black colour of the root has no effect on hair shade.

Typical use — Korean scalp tonics, shampoos and premium skin care. In the GDS Hair Dye Shampoo it is declared in the Brown and Dark Brown formulas as a supporting botanical.

Who it suits / good to know — Suits all hair types. Ginseng has a long history in traditional Korean medicine, but DHALIORA does not make hair-growth or anti-ageing claims for its presence in a rinse-off colour shampoo.

Safety — Not restricted under the EU Cosmetics Regulation and not flagged by the CIR or SCCS. Reactions to topical ginseng are uncommon; patch-test if you have a history of plant sensitivities. This is general information, not medical advice.
