Black Truffle Extract
Also known asTuber Melanosporum Extract, Périgord truffle extract, Tuber melanosporum
FunctionBotanical
What it is — Black Truffle Extract is prepared from Tuber melanosporum, the edible black truffle fungus. It contains amino acids, polysaccharides and minerals, and is best known as a luxury food ingredient.
What it does — In cosmetics it is a conditioning agent: it contributes amino acids and humectant sugars that help the scalp and hair surface hold moisture. It is not a colourant, and it does not lend its dark colour to the hair.
Typical use — Premium skin care and Korean hair treatments, normally at trace levels. In the GDS Hair Dye Shampoo it is declared in the Brown and Dark Brown formulas as a supporting botanical.
Who it suits / good to know — Suits all hair types. In a rinse-off colour shampoo its contribution is modest; treat it as a supporting ingredient rather than a reason to buy.
Safety — Not restricted under the EU Cosmetics Regulation and not flagged by the CIR or SCCS. Fungal allergies exist but are uncommon; patch-test if you have reacted to mushroom-derived ingredients. This is general information, not medical advice.
