What it is — Cetyl Alcohol (INCI: Cetyl Alcohol) is a fatty alcohol used as an emollient, thickener and emulsion stabilizer. Like other fatty alcohols, it is waxy and non-drying.

What it does — It is commonly used to thicken and stabilize creams and to give a smooth, conditioned, non-greasy feel.

Typical use — It appears in creams, lotions, conditioners, masks and cleansers, where it builds body and softness.

Who it suits / good to know — Generally well tolerated across skin and hair types. Fatty alcohols can feel rich on very oily skin, so texture preference varies by person.
