What it is — Cyclopentasiloxane (INCI: Cyclopentasiloxane), also called D5, is a lightweight, fast-evaporating cyclic silicone carrier.

What it does — It is commonly used to give a smooth, silky, dry-touch slip and to help thin and spread heavier ingredients, leaving little residue as it evaporates.

Typical use — It appears in primers, hair serums, moisturizers and makeup.

Who it suits / good to know — Suits those who like a weightless finish. Cyclic siloxanes are effective texture agents but face growing environmental scrutiny in some regions.
