What it is — Niacinamide (INCI: Niacinamide), also known as nicotinamide, is the amide form of vitamin B3. It is a small, water-soluble molecule produced synthetically to a high, stable purity for cosmetic use.

What it does — It is commonly used to support an even-looking tone, help reinforce the skin's moisture barrier, and moderate the look of excess shine. On the scalp it is often included for its soothing, conditioning role.

Typical use — Appears widely in toners, essences, serums and moisturizers, as well as scalp tonics. Formulas often use it as a well-established, general-purpose active rather than at any single fixed level.

Who it suits / good to know — Generally considered suitable for most skin types, including oily and combination skin. It layers easily and is often paired with humectants such as hyaluronic acid or with barrier lipids.
