Polyisobutene
FunctionTexture
What it is — Polyisobutene (INCI: Polyisobutene) is an emollient — an ingredient that softens and smooths.
What it does — It is commonly used as a synthetic film-forming agent that adds cushion and water resistance.
Typical use — It is common in creams, lotions, conditioners, masks, balms and leave-in treatments, where it contributes slip and a conditioned skin- or hair-feel. The exact skin- or hair-feel it gives depends on how rich the ester or oil is and how much is used.
Who it suits / good to know — Generally well tolerated across skin types. Richer emollients can feel heavy on very oily or blemish-prone skin, so texture preference varies by person. Choosing lighter or richer emollients is mostly about matching your skin type and the season.
Safety — DHALIORA grades it low risk: large inert polymer that stays on the skin surface. This reflects the ingredient in general and is not medical advice; patch-test if your skin is easily irritated.
