Potassium Hydroxide
FunctionpH Adjuster
What it is — Potassium Hydroxide (INCI: Potassium Hydroxide) is an alkaline pH-adjusting agent.
What it does — It is used in small amounts to balance a formula's pH and, in soap-style products, to help turn fatty acids into cleansing soap.
Typical use — Found across cleansers, creams and gels as a background pH adjuster, and in soap-based formulas.
Who it suits / good to know — Broadly suitable in finished products; on its own it is strongly alkaline, but it is neutralized in the final formula and used only at trace levels.
Safety — DHALIORA grades it low risk in its EWG-style, ingredient-by-ingredient review, reflecting that it is safe at the trace levels used for pH adjustment in finished products. This is general information, not medical advice.
