Rubus Idaeus Extract
Also known asraspberry extract, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Leaf Extract, Rubus idaeus
FunctionBotanical
What it is — Rubus Idaeus Extract is prepared from the red raspberry plant. Depending on the supplier it may come from the fruit (rich in anthocyanins, ellagitannins and vitamin C) or the leaf (rich in tannins); the INCI name on the box does not specify which part.
What it does — In cosmetics it is an antioxidant and mildly astringent conditioning botanical. Its pigments do not dye hair; they rinse away.
Typical use — Shampoos, toners and skin care. In the GDS Hair Dye Shampoo it is declared in the Brown and Dark Brown formulas as a supporting botanical.
Who it suits / good to know — Suits all hair types. Tannin-rich extracts can give a slightly "clean" feel on the scalp, though at rinse-off levels the effect is subtle.
Safety — Not restricted under the EU Cosmetics Regulation and not flagged by the CIR or SCCS. Raspberry allergy is rare. This is general information, not medical advice.
