Sodium Stearate
FunctionSoap Base
What it is — Sodium Stearate (INCI: Sodium Stearate) is the sodium salt of stearic acid, a fatty-acid soap that acts as a cleansing and structuring agent.
What it does — It is commonly used to provide cleansing and lather in soap-based cleansers and to help harden and structure sticks and bars.
Typical use — It appears in bar and cream soaps, some cleansers, and stick products such as deodorants.
Who it suits / good to know — Soap-based cleansers run at a higher pH and can feel drying on very dry or sensitive skin, so they suit some skin types better than others.
Safety — DHALIORA grades it mid risk in its EWG-style, ingredient-by-ingredient review. This reflects the ingredient in general and is not medical advice; patch-test before wider use if your skin is reactive.
