What it is — Sodium Sulfite is an inorganic salt used as an antioxidant and reducing agent.
What it does — It protects sensitive chemistry — for example dye systems — from premature oxidation, helping keep a formula stable.
Typical use — Seen in hair-color products and some formulas that need protection from oxidation.
Who it suits / good to know — It is CIR-approved and non-irritating for most people, but a small share of sulfite-sensitive individuals (notably some asthmatics) can react.
