What it does — At the levels used here it helps attract moisture and soften rough or built-up surface skin, improving smoothness and helping other ingredients absorb; higher concentrations are more strongly keratolytic.

Typical use — Found in moisturizers, foot and body creams and some targeted softening treatments.

Who it suits / good to know — Often welcomed by dry, rough or flaky skin. Very high-strength versions can feel stronger, so sensitive skin should start gently.
