Ceramide NP
FunctionCeramide
What it is — Ceramide NP (INCI: Ceramide NP) is a ceramide — a skin-identical barrier lipid.
What it does — It is commonly used as a sphingolipid that repairs gaps in the hair's lipid bilayer.
Typical use — It is used in barrier-focused moisturizers, serums, creams and masks, usually alongside other ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. Ceramides work best as a family, so formulas usually combine several barrier lipids together.
Who it suits / good to know — Well suited to dry, sensitive or barrier-compromised skin. Ceramides are generally very well tolerated. There is little downside for most users, which is why ceramides are so widely recommended.
Safety — DHALIORA grades it low risk in its EWG-style, ingredient-by-ingredient review. This reflects the ingredient in general and is not medical advice; patch-test if your skin is easily irritated.
