Hyaluronic Acid
FunctionHydration
What it is — Hyaluronic Acid (INCI: Hyaluronic Acid) is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (a glycosaminoglycan). Cosmetic-grade material is typically produced by microbial fermentation, and in its standard form it is a high-molecular-weight molecule.
What it does — It is a humectant, commonly used to draw and hold water at the surface of skin and scalp, helping give a hydrated, plumped look and a smoother feel. Larger molecules tend to stay nearer the surface and form a light moisturizing film.
Typical use — Found in toners, essences, serums, sheet masks, creams and scalp treatments, often combined with lower-molecular-weight forms for layered hydration.
Who it suits / good to know — Suitable for most skin types. Because humectants pull moisture from their surroundings, it performs best applied to damp skin and sealed with a moisturizer, especially in dry air.
Safety — DHALIORA grades it low risk: a widely used humectant with a strong safety record. General information only, not medical advice.
