What it is — 1,2-Hexanediol (INCI: 1,2-Hexanediol) is a preservative.

What it does — It is commonly used as a multifunctional solvent and mild preservative booster.

Typical use — It is used at low levels across water-containing products — toners, serums, creams, cleansers and masks — to protect the formula from microbial growth. An adequately preserved formula is a core safety requirement, especially for anything containing water.
